India has the second largest number of internet users in the world and digital adoption is growing at an unprecedented rate, with rural India far surpassing urban India in user base growth. Nearly 9 out of every 10 internet users are Indian language users, and it is estimated that by 2025, the number of rural internet users will surpass urban users. The Indian digital ecosystem has to evolve considerably in order to cater to the needs of this emerging market, comprising over 500 million language-first users who will be either using the internet or doing an online transaction for the first time. Several startups and new age businesses have already begun identifying the gaps, creating opportunities and disrupting verticals through innovation and technology.
